His Highness Prince Daniel of the Swedish Royal Family is now the patron of the Swedish Basketball Federation and will support its activities. - It's an honor och we are very happy to see the Prince get involved in Swedish Basketball, says Swedish president Mats Carlson.
After the success of the Swedish women's national team in the EuroBasketmore good news are coming. The decision of Prince Daniel to be the official patron of Swedish Basketball is very timely, when Sweden has applied to host the next Women's EuroBasket and the interest for basketball is booming. According to surveys, basketball is the fourth most popular sport to consume in the age group 15-29 in Sweden.
The patronage of Prince Daniel means he will work to promote the sport of basketball in Sweden in different ways.
- When talking to the Prince he has been very clear about the importance of basketball in public health. We reach young people in all socioeconomic areas who don't necessarily are active in other sports. I think we have an important role to play in society and we need to embrace that and develop it further, says Secretary General Johan Stark.

When a royality accepts the patronage of as organization he or she will support their activities. This can be done in many different ways but generally the patronage lends weight and standing to the organization and its work. The patronage also can be meant to encourage other people to support the organization.
